A pair of wireless earbuds with long battery life, good sound quality, and water resistance for just $20. That’s what the Tozo A2 earbuds bring to the table. They also have a ridiculous lightweight design that makes for a comfortable fit for extended periods. While these aren’t wireless ANC earbuds, they come with 12 total ear tips for a secure fit. This makes for a good seal and solid passive noise cancelling to block out some background noises.

With 24 hours of total battery life with its charging case, the Tozo A2 is a solid choice for all-day battery life. The touch controls allow for a ton of functionality including playback and volume control. Whether watching videos or listening to music, the A2 earbuds can add to the experience with good sound quality. There is some deep bass and extra rumble when called for. Overall sound quality is mostly balanced though. The Tozo A2 will be tempting at this price for those in search of quality wireless earbuds on a budget.

Design and Build Quality

The Tozo A2 earbuds are only available in black from what I can tell. Based on the name, one could assume these are a sequel to the Tozo A1. We raved about their value in our review of the Tozo A1. The Tozo A2 earbuds have a differing stem design (think Apple Airpods) with a built-in microphone at the end. While each earbud is still very light at 3.8 grams, the stems do make them less low profile. You’ll find 12 total ear tips available within the packaging for every ear size. That includes two different types. There are 3 sets of light grey squishy earbud tips. The other 3 sets of ear tips are black and made with thicker material. Attaining a comfortable and stable fit wasn’t an issue. Multiple sizes of ear tips worked well. Users may want to opt for a slightly larger size for the most secure fit during workouts. An ultralight and ergonomic design allows the Tozo A2 wireless earbuds to sit comfortably in your ear canal for extended periods.

The actual earbuds have a Tozo logo along the glossy plastic portion of the stem. Overall build quality seems very sturdy despite the seemingly plastic build. At the top of the stem, there is also a light that flashes blue and red until paired with a device. It should also be noted that the Tozo A2 wireless earbuds do have some water resistance with an IPX5 rating.

We like the compact design of the Tozo A2 charging case. The charging case will fit easily into most pockets for convenient portability. While there is no wireless charging, the pill-shaped case is well put together. There are four led lights to show the current battery life level. Each of the wireless earphones slides seamlessly into the charging case. The lid opens easily and closes with a solid snap. Another Tozo logo can be found on the top of the lid of the charging case. A port for charging with an usb-c cable can also be found on the rear of the compact carrying case.

Battery Life and Controls

You’ll get 6 hours of battery life with the Tozo A2 earbuds. A single earbud can also be used independently for longer battery life. The charging case will add 18 hours of battery life with 3 additional charges. That’s a total of 24 hours of battery life altogether. The wireless earbuds have a battery capacity of 30mAh, while the charging case has 315mAh. We were able to match these battery life estimates at moderate volumes.

Smart touch control on the Tozo A2 works a lot like other Tozo earbuds. While the controls are extensive, they are easy to get the hang of. I prefer this to earbuds that leave off features like volume control. Here’s a quick summary of the available smart touch control options:

  • One tap of either earbud to play and pause audio
  • Double-tap right earbud to skip to the next track
  • Double-tap left earbud to go to the previous track
  • Hold left earbud to decrease the volume level
  • Hold right earbud to increase the volume level
  • Triple-tap either earbud to summon your voice assistant
  • One tap of either earbud to hang up while on phone call
  • When receiving a phone calls
    • One tap of either earbud to answer the phone call
    • Hold either earbud to reject the phone call

Connectivity and Phone Calls

Connectivity features are headlined by advanced Bluetooth 5.3 which allows for a strong signal. That means a more stable, lower latency connection. Tozo rates its Bluetooth range at 40 feet, which I was able to confirm. That’s honestly not the most realistic use case for me. I often wander away from my desk to go upstairs which can cause stutters in playback or complete disconnection. I didn’t have these issues with the A2 earbuds.

One step pairing with the Tozo A2 earbuds is also a pretty seamless experience. After removing the light weight headphones from their case, their lights flash red and blue. Users only have to open up the Bluetooth settings on their device and choose Tozo A2 to pair the wireless earbuds. Once paired, they connect will connect quickly to your device. The Tozo A2 earbuds are not able to connect to multiple Bluetooth devices simultaneously.

Making phone calls on the Tozo A2 headphones is possible thanks to its built-in microphone. That along with its comfortable design makes it a great pair of earbuds for zoom calls while working from home. How does the built-in microphone actually perform? It’s solid for phone calls in a pinch, but nothing special. The A2’s microphone doesn’t do a great job blocking background noise. In a relatively quiet environment, voices come through clear, if a little tiny. They won’t beat a quality pair of over-ear headphones for phone call clarity.

Sound Quality

When listening to the Tozo A2, there are a few things that stand out about its sound quality. There’s an overall balanced nature to the sound quality of music with these earbuds. It’s a relatively smooth EQ with a slight emphasis of sub-bass to my ears. It’s not booming bassy noises that are overemphasized as much as many of mainstream headphones. It won’t pop up on on every song although you’ll find some thump for songs that call for it. Generally accurate reproduction can be found with the treble and mids. The mid-range sounds good but vocals don’t quite have the same vibrancy and clarity we liked with the A1 headphones. Treble was also solid with no harshness.

One other thing I noticed about the Tozo A2 is that they don’t get very loud compared to other earbuds. Max volume is something I always try to test. While it’s not safe to listen at loud or max volume a lot, it’s something people will want from time to time (like during a workout). The Tozo A2 wireless earbuds have a mostly balanced EQ that is good for their price. At this price point, it’s important not to be too critical. Most users will like the way these headphones sound. I just can’t help but compare them to the Tozo A1 earbuds. I found the Tozo A1 to have a more dynamic EQ with a little more detail and clarity.

Tozo A1 vs Tozo A2

Tozo A1 and A2 Charging Case Comparison
A1 and A2 Charging Cases

Battery life on the Tozo A2 is identical to the A1 with 24 total hours of battery life with the charging case. A single earbud can be used on both models for longer battery life. There is no hybrid active noise-cancelling or ambient mode feature like the Tozo NC2. Only passive noise cancellation is available to block out background noise and nearby sounds. The Tozo A2 earbuds are probably your best bet for a secure fit. Not only are 12 ear tips included, but the Tozo A1 earbuds have very narrow ear tips that resulted in fit issues for some. Both the Tozo A1 and A2 have IPX5 water resistance.

Overall sound quality is more than acceptable on both, but I preferred the Tozo A1. Both have mostly balanced EQs. The Tozo A1 has overall better clarity and mids that really shine. I found the Tozo A2 to be enjoyable but not nearly as dynamic and fun. The Tozo A2 also didn’t have the same crispness in the treble or mid-range. Touch controls are identical for both. I did find the touch controls to be a little bit easier to register on the larger, flatter surface area of the Tozo A1.

Conclusion: Lightweight Design + Clean EQ

There have never been more options for a quality pair of true wireless earbuds. At $20, it’s difficult not to recommend the Tozo A2 earbuds. Their battery lasts an impressive 24 hours with the charging case and they provide a mostly balanced EQ. Unfortunately, we can’t say they provide an upgrade over the similarly specced Tozo A1. While listening to music on the Tozo A2 earbuds is enjoyable, we don’t find then as engaging as the A1 earbuds. But it may not be enough of a difference for everyone. Some may prefer the stem design and varied ear tip options of the Tozo A2. Either device is a worth pick, as long as you understand the differences. Both have IPX5 water resistance and identical battery life

FAQs: Tozo A2 Budget Earbuds

Are Tozo Earbuds Any Good?

Yes. Tozo makes quality earbuds at impressive price points. They specialize in affordable wireless earbuds that provide a lot of value. Tozo also produce enough models to fit any customer’s needs.

Is The Tozo NC2 A Good Alternative?

Yes. It’s typically unfair to compare more expensive options. But the Tozo NC2 routinely goes on sale for around $30. That’s only a little more for longer battery life, transparency mode, and hybrid active noise cancelling.

Does The Tozo A2 Have An App?

No. There is no companion app for the Tozo A2 wireless earbuds. While it would be nice, the controls are pretty expansive and there is no ANC. This along with its price point make the lack of app support less of an issue.

Can I Wear My Tozo Earbuds in The Shower?

This depends on their IP rating. Many Tozo earbuds have water resistance and the Tozo A2 has an IPX5 rating. This is the minimum water resistance I would recommend for taking a shower.
