The first thing you’ll probably notice about the Tozo A1 is its ultra-lightweight design. The Tozo A1 mini wireless earbuds earn their namesake with a single earbud only weighing 3.7g. Their feather-light weight does wonders for comfort. Despite their size, these Bluetooth earbuds still provide 6 hours of battery life. The Tozo A1 is paired with a compact case that extends battery life to a total of 24 hours.

These Tozo A1 mini wireless earbuds make room for a built-in microphone for phone calls. Touch controls are utilized to control playback without pulling out your device. That even includes volume control. You might worry about build quality with earbuds this small. The Tozo A1 earbuds manage to feel sturdy. They’re even water-resistant with an IP rating of IPX5. Bluetooth 5.3 on the Tozo A1 results in a stable transmission and a strong signal. Lastly, they deliver a more neutral EQ and good sound quality for this price point.

NOTE: Tozo has since released the Tozo A2 earbuds. They have similar specs but a stem design that some might prefer. You can check out our thoughts and a brief comparison in our Tozo A2 review.

Tozo A1 Contents

The Tozo A1 earbuds came in a small white box with its contents packed neatly inside. That includes two ear tips in addition to the pair already on the Tozo earbuds. After unboxing the Tozo A1 box, you will find the below items:

  • Tozo A1 Mini Wireless Earbuds
  • Manual and Quick Start Guide
  • Charging Case
  • USB Type C Charging Cable
  • Three pairs of ear tips

While the included USB Type-C charging cable is useful, it is the shorter size. This size is most useful for me to plug into my computer dock’s USB ports. I’m just glad it wasn’t a micro-USB cord. The small size of the Tozo earbuds, charging case, ear tips (more on this later) is the first thing I noticed. The rest of the packaging is your usual included contents for wireless earbuds.

Battery Life and Controls

Battery life on these Tozo wireless earbuds is 6 hours. Each Tozo A1 earbud has a capacity of 40 mAh.The charging case battery is 400mAh and will extend battery life to an impressive 24 hours. You will get 3 full charges from the case before having to find a charger. You won’t find too many true wireless earbuds with much better total battery life. Even fewer with that battery life in such a lightweight design. We were able to achieve the advertised battery life during usage.

Touch control on the Tozo A1 wireless earbuds is utilized to adjust playback and volume level. I found the touch controls to be fairly intuitive. Here is a breakdown of the touch control function:

  • One Tap of either earbud to play and pause audio
  • Double-tap right earbud to skip to the next track
  • Double-tap left earbud to go to the previous track
  • Hold left earbud to decrease the volume level
  • Hold right earbud to increase the volume level
  • Triple-tap either earbud to summon your voice assistant

You can also answer calls that are incoming with a single tap of either earbud. Phone calls can be ended by holding either earbud. You can also avoid answering calls by holding either earbud to reject phone calls. As you can see, the touch control on the Tozo A1 is pretty well thought out. More premium Bluetooth earbuds often manage to mess this up. Tozo makes it so that most of the touch control functionality is usable with either earbud.

Design and Comfort

A1 Case and Earbud Size Comparison

Tozo did more than a great job of constructing these tiny earbuds. The Tozo A1 earbuds have a lightweight and ergonomic design. Each earbud weighs 3.7 grams. The egg-shaped buds are small and low profile. They slip comfortably into the inner contour of your ear. It will help greatly to first find the right fit. 3 silicone ear tips are provided. You find small, medium, and large-sized ear tips provided. The medium size silicone ear tips will be pre-installed. The medium size worked best for me.

Once you find the correct ear tips, these Tozo earbuds are fairly comfortable even if they fit me a little differently than most wireless earbuds. When I tried to push these Tozo earbuds a little deeper into my ear, it felt a little off. The ear tips are so narrow that they didn’t seem to extend enough to go that far. Once I just set them softly into my ear, comfort was not an issue. They also surprisingly do a great job staying in place. The Tozo earbuds didn’t budge when shaking my head making them a great budget earbuds for workouts. The lightweight design of the Tozo A1 means you’ll barely remember they are in your ears at times. Those with small ears often find some true wireless earbuds too big for a comfortable fit. I think the Tozo A1 and its miniature size will be a godsend for listeners with small ears.

The charging case for the Tozo A1 is also very small and will easily slip into a pants pocket. Indicator lights are on both the Bluetooth earbuds and the charging case. The single light on each earbud only blinks when in the case. There are 4 lights on the charging case to show progress. When all 4 lights are lit, the wireless earbuds are done charging. You’ll get a waterproof rating of IPX5 on the Tozo A1 earbuds. An IP rating of IPX5 means these Tozo earbuds are water-resistant against a low-pressure water jet. That means these are good earbuds to withstand rain and sweat from exercise. The Tozo A1 charging case is not water-resistant.

Connectivity

Unlike some true wireless earbuds, the Tozo A1 doesn’t limit you to using both earbuds. A single earbud can be used to listen to music while the other charges. Both the left and right earbuds can be used independently. This is very convenient and a great way to get better battery life. Bluetooth 5.3 is also available on the Tozo A1 wireless earbuds. We were able to quickly pair these Tozo earbuds and maintain a strong, stable connection.

Budget wireless earbuds often skimp on connectivity. We’re glad to see that’s not the case with the Tozo A1. The compact charging case charges via a USB Type-C cable. Tozo even provides one for you. Either way, you won’t have to lug an extra cable around with the charging case. The Tozo A1 true wireless earbuds are compatible with both Apple and Android phones.

Call and Sound Quality

Case and Earbuds

It’s always tough to discuss sound quality in this price range. You will of course find higher audio quality in more expensive true wireless earbuds. There are still levels when it comes to decent sound quality. In the case of these Tozo earbuds, we were happy to experience relatively good sound quality.

We didn’t find these to have powerful bass as many budget earbuds have. That aforementioned bass can often sound muddy and hurt overall audio quality. Bass is present on the Tozo A1 and even punchy when called for. The bass is just not boomy or thick. I don’t expect these to please bassheads. It’s an overall enjoyable sound signature, as vocals and high frequencies are allowed to shine. I particularly enjoyed listening to vocals with these Tozo earbuds. Vocals sound lively and forward. When listening to Natalie M. King’s Traces in The Sand, the Tozo A1s definitely sound much more expensive than their price tag. Overall audio quality is definitely better than expected for this price range. The Tozo A1 earbuds provide good sound quality and a relatively balanced sound signature.

The call quality for the Tozo A1 earbuds was acceptable. I wouldn’t count on the built-in microphone combating too much background noise during phone calls though. They did do a good job of blocking outside noise. I would credit this to mostly having a good seal with the silicone ear tips. They performed well for passive noise reduction in general.

These Tozo A1 wireless earbuds provide insane value at their price. The light and ergonomic design make them a comfortable fit. They are also water-resistant (IPX5) with great battery life despite their small size. While you’re not getting the highest quality sound, you just can’t expect that at this price point. The Tozo A1 wireless earbuds have acceptable sound quality. The audio quality is good at this price point, as long you’re not looking for headphones with deep bass. If you want more bass in a similarly priced pair of wireless earbuds, we recommend the Haylou GT7.

  1. Just received mine recenty. So far so good for earbuds under $20. Good fit, good sound and unable to hear outside background noise. Almost as good as my Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, which currently sell for about $100. Satisfied.
