The Sony SRS-43 will capture sub-bass that similar speakers can’t. It also doesn’t distort at high volumes. It has 60 Watts of power, but I would have guessed higher before checking the spec sheet. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, AUX, and NFC.

The Sony SRS-XB43’s 6.5-pound form factor is small enough to hold and cradle. The battery here will get you 24 hours and the ability to charge other devices. There’s also the Party connect feature. This allows you to sync music and lighting of up to 100 compatible Sony speakers. The speaker’s lights can flash in sync with your music. It’s well-executed, but not a huge selling point for us. Onboard playback and volume controls are here, although I wish they were larger. They won’t be easily located in lowlight environments.

Sony has its Music Center app for support as well. It allows advanced playback controls in addition to different sound and lighting modes. EQ is also customizable with the app. You’re free to tweak the EQ based on your preferences and mood. Their Fiestable app has even more lighting options. There’s even an option to control the lighting with motion gestures from your phone. We see a ton to like with the speaker itself. The app and software add a ton of other features. There’s something for everybody and every environment.

Price-wise, this speaker falls close to the average price on this list. That’s fitting because the Sony-XB43 includes some of what makes all these devices special. Water resistance, quality sound, portability, bass, app support, lighting, and more. This speaker can handle the tailgate as well as a pool party. AOMAIS GO Bluetooth Speaker

The AOMAIS GO is the cheapest option here and shouldn’t be overlooked. Let’s start with size. It’s the lightest option here at roughly 4 pounds and has a built-in handle. We don’t love the form factor. Luckily, there’s still a small footprint which means it’s a very portable device. At 40 Watts, we still found the volume impressive. The most impressive aspect? Sound quality at this price point. Lows had surprising depth and instrumentation was well defined. This isn’t a bass-heavy sloppy EQ. I was impressed no matter the genre that I listened to.

40 hours of playback time can be squeezed from this 10,000mah battery. That includes the ability to charge other devices. Quick charge means will charge this speaker from empty to full in 4 hours. It’s rated IPX7, which means it can be completely submerged in water. It also looks and feels like it could take a beating. The included microphone port is also a nice value add. Bluetooth and aux connection options are available. You can also sync this speaker with another AOMAIS GO. We weren’t able to test this, but the individual sound quality makes it enticing at this price point. This is our top budget option for obvious reasons. We’re not in love with the design, but everything else is amazing for the money.

Best Loud Outdoor Bluetooth Party Speaker

SoundBoks 2 Bluetooth Speaker

There is no official IP rating. SOUNDBOKS says this speaker is water-resistant and splash-proof. There’s quality sound in addition to sheer volume. No muffled vocals or heavy distortion.  It really brings the big concert venue sound it was built for. At 33 pounds, it’s definitely not something people will grab and take everywhere. 33 pounds is doable. The actual dimensions are actually more restrictive than the weight. You will find multiple handles to make that process easier. SOUNDBOKS also makes a backpack to secure the speaker on your back.

This battery life is rated at 40 hours. We’ll take it considering the high output of these speakers. The SoundsBoks 2 also has a swappable battery. A new battery can be dropped in to keep the party going without ever breaking out a charger. The included charger will fully charge the battery in 3.5 hours. The battery can also be charged inside or out of the speaker. Connectivity can be established via Bluetooth and a 1/8″ AUX.

Aiwa Exos-9 Bluetooth Speaker

Big bass is often important for parties. At the same time, sound quality can’t be lost. Many of the options on this list will lean toward an EQ that is bass-heavy and exciting. The Aiwa Exos-9 prioritizes power and clarity over booming bass. That shouldn’t make you discount the bass. It’s definitely there, but it also allows other frequencies to shine. You’ll still find 200 watts of power here, 5 drivers, and a 6.5″ subwoofer. There’s great depth in the bass, clear highs, and balanced mids. The Aiwa Exos-9  has the best overall sound quality on this list with no distortion even at ridiculous volumes (up to 108dB).

A five-band EQ is included to let you further tailor the sound. This along with many other options are available with its digital display. We were able to appreciate the detail and clarity in the music across genres. Even at this price point, we found the sonic experience surprisingly impressive. We also found the somewhat retro design appealing. It’s a mixed bag from a portability standpoint. The 13 pounds is fine, but the form factor is kind of odd. There is a built-in handle to make things a little easier. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, AUX, and NFC.

The battery comes in at a disappointing nine hours. It isn’t great, but there is a lot of power here. In addition, the comparable options on this list are much heavier. Unfortunately, there is no water resistance here. The power and high-fidelity sound is the clear sell here. It’s definitely the best-sounding speaker on this list. And it has the power to fill the air at any tailgate, campsite, or beach expedition. If you can work around the battery limitations, it’s a great pick.

You’ll find 80 watts of power here. There is a form factor that still allows for some portability. At a little under 8 pounds, it’s not something you’ll dread carrying around. It also includes a prominent handle for convenience. Battery life is rated at 18 hours. That’s outpaced by several options here, but respectable for this size. There is standard Bluetooth available in addition to an AUX cord option.

The Soundcore Trance has a 5.25″ subwoofer and 2″ tweeter that can push 101dB of Sound. That includes Soundcore’s BassUp technology which uses a custom algorithm to intensify bass in real time. Its IPX7 rating means it can be fully submerged in water. That might be overkill for most purposes. It also means you don’t have to worry about rain at all. No need to plan around speaker setup. Place it at the center of the dance floor or on a floating pool raft.

Another big plus for the Soundcore Trance speaker is app support. I’ve had experience with their app in reviewing their headphones. I’m glad to say the speakers are also greatly assisted by the app. The app includes a customizable EQ. This allows you to tweak the sound to your liking. App support also provides lighting options too. The Soundcore Trance has LED lighting that syncs with your music. There are five different lighting modes accessed through the app. The app even includes 3 party games for interactions with the crown

Lastly, the speaker includes an indoor and outdoor mode. Outdoor mode magnifies bass for a more hard-hitting sound. Expect a more balanced sound out of its indoor mode. The Soundcore Trance provides an all-around great experience with a ton of features. It’s good at almost everything. It’s portable, loud, waterproof, and a good fit for a ton of use cases.

Ion Audio Raptor

The Ion Audio Raptor is a battery monster. The rechargeable battery will give is rated for 75 hours of battery life. That’s the most you’ll find on this list and should be more than satisfactory for most. It’s also putting out some serious power with 100 Watts on board. And you can hear the difference. While the sound quality might not blow you away, you’ll definitely feel it and the bass from the 8″ subwoofer. The Ion Audio Raptor’s rugged design is meant to mimic a tire’s rubber tread.  It also has some specs to match its design. An IPX4 rating means it’s fine being left in the rain. It also just looks like it can take a beating.

Unfortunately, all this comes with a tradeoff.  It’s relatively heavy compared to its counterparts at 30 pounds. That means portability is ideal. It’s built for long tailgate affairs and multi-day outings amongst the elements. Luckily, it does include wheels and 3 handles, which will help in moving it around. It’s also got cup holders adding to its appeal as a rugged outdoor party companion.

Usual Bluetooth connectivity is here along with NFC and AUX options. Other devices can take advantage of this huge battery and be charged via USB. There are several options on this list that may cost more than people are willing to spend. Those options are typically high-powered or come with fancy features. Bugani’s M83 speaker is a great budget alternative for those who don’t need all the bells and whistles. Luckily, it still has a few surprises. At 40 watts, the M83’s volume won’t blow the doors off, but it’s and more than enough for a small backyard gathering. 2 subwoofers assist in checking bass off the list. One of its biggest assets is portability. The M83 weighs just under 5 pounds and it comes with a convenient handle.

You also get onboard playback and volume controls. Those buttons are large and well-placed. Many speakers skimp or put little thought into onboard playback, but I love the execution of the M83. Another great feature is the ability to sync with another Bugani M83. This is a feature you’ll find often on this list. At well under $100, it’s actually an affordable option for the Bugatti M83. Sinking another Bugatti M83 will get you 80 watts of power and a big bump in volume. You’ll also still be spending less than many of the options here.

Battery life is 40 hours which shouldn’t be possible at this size. An IPX5 rating means it can withstand splashes and rain. On the connectivity front, you’ll find the usual. Bluetooth and aux connection. There’s also the ability to insert a microSD card for local playback. The nerd in us particularly loves this addition. Lastly, the M83 has the ability to charge other devices. Put it all together and you have an extremely well-put-together product at an amazing price.

Ultimate Ears Hyperboom

The Ultimate Ear Hyperboom is a relative newcomer on the block. We’ve taken notice for a few reasons. First of all, the Hyperboom is one of the most powerful speakers on this list and still manages to weigh 13 pounds. That’s great for portability and its 24 hours of battery life is respectable. The UE Hyperboom was designed with a loud sound in mind. The Hyperboom still manages to maintain clarity alongside the booming bass. It’s clear they fought the urge to overdo the low end with the default sound profile.

It also has an adaptive equalizer. It adjusts to your environment and automatically customizes the sound profile. Luckily, you also have the ability to change your EQ manually via the app. That brings us to the software and app support. Their Easy Share feature allows you to play music from four different devices. That’s two Bluetooth inputs, one auxiliary input, and one optical input. While one phone is controlling playback, another phone connects and cues up the next song. The queue is managed through the app so the flow of music never actually stops.

You also have the ability to sync with a number of other UE speakers. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, 3.5mm AUX, and an optical input. The Bluetooth range is an impressive 150 Ft. That along with the Easy Share feature adds a lot of flexibility with playback control. Onboard control is included for playback and volume. We like the overall design of the UE Hyperboom and its large buttons. There’s also a really nifty pull-out handle to use when carrying the speaker around. Charging other devices via USB is also available here. Lastly, it carries an IPX4 rating, which should make it safe from a splash or light rain.

It’s clear to see why the UE Hyperboom has turned heads. There’s some hard-hitting sound that manages to still sound clean. Similar to Sony, they also have great software and app support that adds useful features. Their Easy Share music feature specifically is really innovative.

lON Audio Block Rocker Plus

The Block Rocker Plus is actually the second ION Audio speaker on our list. They make great quality products and this speaker is no exception. Here you’ll find a similar form factor to the Ion Audio Raptor without all the durability features. No ruggedized design or water resistance. You do get is a slightly lighter footprint. At 20 pounds, it still provides 100 Watts of power and an onboard microphone. Helpful handles and wheels are also here to aid portability. All this comes at almost $100 cheaper than the Raptor. We’re betting that many won’t mind the trade-off.

50 hours of battery life is also a huge advantage. You’ll find an AM/FM radio and onboard controls. There is an expansive amount of playback controls and even radio presets. The Block Rocker Plus also includes a Bass Boost button to increase the low end. We didn’t find the sound quality very impressive, but it was solid for this price point. It does reach high volumes thanks to the onboard power. Connectivity options include the usual Bluetooth and AUX.

While this doesn’t have some of the same durability specs as the Raptor, it still feels extremely solid. The capability to charge other devices via USB is also included. This is a great option for those looking for a lot of power and volume on a budget.

Features of a Good Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker

Size and Portability

A pretty big issue with electronic speakers is portability. Depending on your use case, this may be a key feature. If the main reason for your purchase is a party in your backyard, size may not be that much of a concern. On other hand, if you’re planning on taking the party with you to a tailgate or beach, you’ll have to consider size. Some larger options might dampen the blow by including things like a wheel or a handle. That size may also come with bigger battery life and sound.
